Raising and caring for domesticated animals on school grounds can provide a memorable learning experience for students of all ages. Animals that are most commonly raised on a school campus include chickens, ducks, goats, and honey bees. These animals are a great way for students to develop knowledge of animal husbandry while developing 21st century skills such as responsibility and leadership. Food produced by these animals, including eggs, milk, and honey, can increase the availability of fresh, nutritious foods within in a school community while providing numerous educational opportunities for students and teachers alike.
