O. Henry Middle School has installed a pond using a stock tank from Callaghan’s General Store. This pond is self sustaining without a pump. With the right mixture of native plants and gambusia fish, the only necessary maintenance is adding extra water in the summer! O. Henry did a great job of piling rocks next to the pond and inside it to provide access points for animals and insects of all sizes.

For some, the garden provides a classroom in which to learn about ecology or find inspiration for a short story, for others it is a nursery where one can develop and practice their horticultural skills, and for many it simply provides a quite space for introspection and reflection."
